Odisha Extends PMFBY Enrolment Deadline for Kharif 2026 to August 15, Giving Farmers More Time
Bhubaneswar: In a significant relief to the farming community, the enrolment deadline for the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) for the Kharif 2026 season has been extended to August 15, 2026, from the earlier deadline of July 31.
The extension has been approved by the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare after the Odisha Cooperation Department requested additional time. The move is expected to help more eligible farmers register under the crop insurance scheme and safeguard themselves against financial losses arising from natural disasters and other notified risks.
For the Kharif 2026 season, the notified crops covered under the scheme in Odisha include paddy, maize, groundnut, ragi, cotton, red gram, ginger, and turmeric in designated areas. The insurance scheme is open to loanee farmers, non-loanee farmers, and sharecroppers, ensuring wider coverage across the state’s agricultural sector.
Under the State Government’s support, farmers can avail crop insurance free of cost for up to five acres. Beneficiaries are required to pay only Re 1 per plot towards account validation, while the farmers’ insurance premium is fully borne by the Odisha Government with additional financial support from the Centre.
To enrol, farmers must have an Aadhaar number or proof of Aadhaar enrolment, along with necessary documents such as land ownership records, bank account details, and crop information.
Loanee farmers can complete the enrolment process through their respective Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies (PACS), Large-sized Adivasi Multipurpose Cooperative Societies (LAMPCS), or designated bank branches. Non-loanee farmers can register through Common Service Centres (CSCs), cooperative and commercial banks, authorised insurance intermediaries, and approved online platforms.
The government has also arranged assistance at PACS, LAMPCS, Assistant Registrar of Cooperative Societies (ARCS), Deputy Registrar of Cooperative Societies (DRCS), Chief District Agriculture Officer (CDAO) offices, and through authorised insurance representatives to facilitate registrations.
Urging farmers who have not yet enrolled to take advantage of the extended deadline, the Cooperation Department appealed to them to complete their registration by August 15, ensuring financial protection for their crops, especially in view of the anticipated challenges during the El Niño year.
