President Murmu Inaugurates Jagadguru Kripalu University, Stresses Value-Based Education for Viksit Bharat

Bhubaneswar: President Droupadi Murmu on Monday inaugurated Jagadguru Kripalu University in Cuttack and called upon higher education institutions to play a transformative role in shaping ethical, socially responsible and innovative citizens who can contribute to India’s vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, the President said universities should not only impart academic knowledge but also foster research, innovation, entrepreneurship and strong moral values. She emphasised that value-based education is essential for preparing young minds to address future challenges while serving society and the nation.

Highlighting Odisha’s rich civilisational legacy, Murmu said the state has been a centre of learning, spirituality, culture and public service for generations. She noted that the teachings associated with Lord Jagannath continue to inspire values of inclusiveness, compassion and the welfare of humanity.

The President also paid tribute to Cuttack’s historic contribution to the nation, describing it as the birthplace of renowned personalities such as Utkal Gourav Madhusudan Das, Karmavir Gauri Shankar Ray, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and former Chief Minister Biju Patnaik. She further acknowledged the immense contributions of Utkalmani Gopabandhu Das and Utkal Kesari Harekrushna Mahatab, who made the city a centre of their public service, literary pursuits and social reforms.

Expressing optimism about the newly established university, Murmu said it has the potential to blend India’s timeless cultural and spiritual values with contemporary education, creating an institution dedicated to the service of society and national development.

Describing India’s youth as the country’s greatest strength, she said educational institutions must provide an environment that enables students to realise their potential while nurturing qualities such as integrity, discipline, compassion and commitment to the nation. According to her, knowledge attains its true purpose only when it is used to improve society and advance the welfare of humanity.

Referring to the goal of achieving a Viksit Bharat by 2047, the President said universities have a crucial role in driving innovation and generating solutions to address emerging societal challenges. She urged educational institutions to encourage scientific thinking and technological advancement while ensuring that students remain rooted in ethical principles.

Murmu expressed confidence that Jagadguru Kripalu University would emerge as a centre of excellence by promoting research, innovation, entrepreneurship and holistic development. She said the institution is well-positioned to produce skilled professionals, researchers and entrepreneurs who will contribute meaningfully to the vision of both Viksit Odisha and Viksit Bharat.
