Odisha Assembly Committee Visits Telangana to Study Departmental and Legislative Practices

Bhubaneswar: A seven-member committee of the Odisha Legislative Assembly is on a study visit to Telangana to examine the functioning of various government departments and legislative committees and understand administrative practices that could be adopted in Odisha.
The delegation is being led by Sudhir Ranjan Pattjoshi, Chairman of Departmental Standing Committee-7. The visit commenced on August 6.
Members of the delegation include Standing Committee members Tusharkanti Behera, Tankadhar Tripathy, Agasti Behera and Durga Charan Tanti. Chairpersons of Legislative Assembly committees Ishwar Chandra Nayak and Prashant Kumar Das are also part of the visiting team.
On August 7, the delegation visited the Telangana State Legislative Assembly and held courtesy meetings with the Speaker, Chairman of the Legislative Council and chairpersons of relevant committees.
During the visit, the Odisha legislators interacted with senior officials from several departments to understand their administrative structure, functioning and management practices.
The discussions covered key areas including the Industries Department, Steel and Mines Department, Forest, Environment and Climate Change Department, Commerce and Transport Department, Planning and Convergence Department, and Skill Development and Technical Education Department.
The committee also examined the functioning of various committees of the Telangana Legislative Assembly, including their role in departmental scrutiny and the review of government budgets.
The interactions provided an opportunity for members of the Odisha delegation to exchange views, experiences and suggestions on legislative procedures, administrative functioning and financial oversight.
The study visit is intended to help the committee gain insights into effective practices followed in Telangana and identify approaches that could strengthen the functioning of government departments and legislative committees in Odisha.
