Mahanadi Water Dispute: Shah to Meet Odisha, Chhattisgarh CMs on Oct 1

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will chair a meeting with the chief ministers of Odisha and Chhattisgarh on October 1 to discuss the long-pending Mahanadi river water-sharing dispute.
Odisha Advocate General Pitambar Acharya said the meeting is aimed at advancing efforts for an amicable and equitable settlement between the two states. The Central Water Commission (CWC) has already submitted details of its latest discussions to the Mahanadi Water Disputes Tribunal, which has taken the information on record.

The meeting comes soon after Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai met Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi in Bhubaneswar on September 20. The two leaders discussed the water dispute for over an hour, with Sai expressing confidence that the issue could be resolved.
The dispute has remained before the Mahanadi Water Disputes Tribunal since 2018.
