Indian Railways Sets New Freight Loading Record in October

Indian Railways has created a new record by transporting more than 145 million tonnes of goods in October 2026, marking its highest-ever monthly freight loading. The achievement represents an increase of over 8% compared to October last year.
The significant rise in freight movement highlights the Railways’ growing contribution to India’s economic development and supply chain network.

Among the major commodities, food grain transportation recorded a growth of over 26%, while domestic coal loading increased by 16%. Clinker shipments rose by more than 10%, and iron ore loading registered a 5% increase.
To meet the rising demand from power plants, the Railways supplied an average of approximately 470 coal rakes every day during the month.
Passenger services also witnessed positive growth, with more than 64 crore people travelling by train in October, compared to nearly 63 crore during the same period last year.
