INDIA Bloc Announces Odisha Bandh on October 8 Over MMDR Amendment

Bhubaneswar: The INDIA bloc has announced a statewide Odisha bandh on October 8, protesting the MMDR Amendment Act and demanding its withdrawal.
The announcement was made by Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Bhakta Charan Das during a demonstration near Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi’s residence in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday.
Leaders and workers of several opposition parties, including the Congress, CPI(M), CPI, CPI(ML) Liberation, Forward Bloc, NCP, Samajwadi Party and RJD, took part in the protest. The protesters had initially planned to march towards the Odisha Assembly, but shifted their programme after the Monsoon Session was adjourned sine die.

Addressing the gathering, Das said the agitation against the MMDR Amendment Act would continue across the state. He announced that the INDIA bloc would organise a major protest in Kendujhar on October 8, followed by the statewide bandh.
Das appealed to all INDIA bloc constituents and other opposition parties to support the bandh and urged people to participate in the protest.
The Congress leader also accused the BJP-led state government of failing the people of Odisha and reiterated that his party would continue its campaign against the MMDR amendment until the legislation is withdrawn.
