IMD Forecasts Low-Pressure System Over Bay of Bengal Around Diwali

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast the formation of a low-pressure system over the South Bay of Bengal on October 21, which may intensify into a depression by October 23.
According to IMD predictions, the system is expected to move northwest initially before changing course toward Tamil Nadu and southern Andhra Pradesh. Officials clarified that Odisha will not be affected by the system.

“The low-pressure area may intensify into a depression, but its trajectory and intensity are still uncertain. Models suggest it may move toward Tamil Nadu and south Andhra Pradesh, with no impact on Odisha,” an IMD official said.
While the GFS model predicts that the system could reach near north Tamil Nadu and south Andhra Pradesh by October 23, other weather models have not supported this forecast.
Meanwhile, Odisha is expected to experience dry weather in the coming week, with no rainfall predicted across the state.
