Heatwave Forces School Closures in Three Odisha Districts

Bhubaneswar: Amid prevailing heatwave conditions across Odisha, the District Collectors of Angul, Khordha, and Deogarh have ordered the closure of all government and private schools, along with Anganwadi centres, starting Monday.
As per official notifications, educational institutions in Khordha and Deogarh districts will remain closed from April 20 to April 23. In Angul district, the closure will be in effect from April 20 to April 22, 2026.

The district administrations have directed concerned education authorities to implement the orders immediately, prioritising the safety and well-being of students, teachers, and staff in view of the extreme temperatures.
Officials further stated that if any examinations are scheduled during this period, they must be conducted during morning hours to avoid exposure to peak afternoon heat.
The decision comes as a precautionary step following intense heatwave conditions in the state, with temperatures rising sharply and warnings issued by the India Meteorological Department.
Authorities have also advised parents and students to remain hydrated and avoid unnecessary outdoor activities during the daytime.
