Fresh Low Pressure Likely Over Bay of Bengal on Aug 14, Odisha to See Heavy Rain

Bhubaneswar: Another low pressure area is likely to form over the Bay of Bengal around August 14. This could lead to an increase in rainfall across Odisha.

As per signs from the weather system, a new weather activity is expected to become active in the Bay of Bengal again. According to the IMD, an upper air cyclonic circulation is likely to develop over the north Bay of Bengal around August 12. Under its influence, a low pressure area may form over the northwest Bay of Bengal by the beginning of the second week, around August 14. This possible low pressure system will be different from the current weather system.

Earlier, another weather system was forecast to form around August 7-8 off the Gangetic West Bengal coast and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal. It was expected to move in a west-northwest direction towards north Odisha, Jharkhand and north Chhattisgarh.

Between August 13 and 19, rainfall activity is likely to increase over east and northeast India. During this period, several parts of Odisha, along with West Bengal-Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, are likely to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall.

The exact track, intensity, and how much rain each area will get from the possible low pressure is not clear yet. More clarity is expected in IMD’s subsequent forecasts as the system nears formation.
