East Coast Railway Loads 81.40 MT Freight In First Four Months Of FY 2026-27

Bhubaneswar: The East Coast Railway (ECoR) has recorded 81.40 million tonnes (MT) of originating freight loading during the first four months of the financial year 2026-27, reflecting steady growth in its freight operations.

The freight loading was recorded between April and July 2026, with the railway zone attributing the performance to better utilisation of infrastructure, efficient operations and timely transportation of goods across its jurisdiction.

The achievement comes amid the recent restructuring of the railway network and the establishment of the new Rayagada Railway Division, which has emerged as an important contributor to ECoR’s freight movement.

Among the three divisions, Khurda Road accounted for the highest freight loading at 59.02 MT during the four-month period. Rayagada Division followed with 13.71 MT, while Sambalpur Division contributed 8.67 MT.

The newly established Rayagada Division alone handled 3.14 MT of originating freight in July. Iron ore remained a major commodity, accounting for 2.28 MT of the division’s loading during the month. Bauxite contributed another 0.19 MT.

The combined performance of Khurda Road, Rayagada and Sambalpur divisions took ECoR’s total originating freight loading to 81.40 MT between April and July.

Railway officials said the achievement was supported by coordinated efforts from various departments, including Operating, Commercial, Engineering, Mechanical and Electrical, to ensure uninterrupted and efficient freight movement.

The ECoR General Manager appreciated the efforts of officers and employees across the zone and urged them to maintain the momentum. He also stressed the need to further enhance operational efficiency and provide improved, customer-focused freight services.
