Five Cheetah Cubs Born at Kuno, India’s Population Reaches 60

India’s cheetah conservation programme has recorded another major success with the birth of five cubs at Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh.
The cubs were born to KJP21, an Indian-born female cheetah, taking the country’s total cheetah population to 60, including 41 born in India.

Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav described the development as an important step in building the next generation of India’s cheetah population.
The newborns also mark the arrival of the Botswana genetic lineage in India, as their father is a male cheetah brought from Botswana. According to the minister, KJP21 is the third Indian-born female cheetah to successfully reproduce, following Mukhi and KGP12.

Yadav congratulated the veterinarians, forest officials, field teams and other personnel involved in Project Cheetah, praising their continued efforts to establish a sustainable cheetah population in the country.
