Cyclone Preparedness Intensified in Jagatsinghpur; Officials Inspect Coastal Safety Measures

With the state government prioritising the protection of every life ahead of the approaching cyclone, senior administrative and police officials have stepped up preparedness measures across vulnerable areas of Jagatsinghpur district. Acting under the guidance of Odisha DGP Vinaytosh Mishra, IPS, officials are conducting field inspections to ensure that evacuation plans and emergency response systems are fully operational.

As part of the ongoing preparedness drive, Dr. Satyajit Naik, IPS, IGP, Central Range, Kataka, accompanied by Jagatsinghpur Collector J. Sonal, IAS, and Superintendent of Police Ankit Verma, IPS, visited Jatadhari Muhana to assess the arrangements for protecting residents in cyclone-prone coastal locations.

During the inspection, the team reviewed the process of relocating people from vulnerable areas to designated cyclone shelters. The officers also examined shelter facilities to verify the availability of essential amenities and ensure that displaced residents receive appropriate support and a safe place to stay during the emergency.

The inspections follow the Chief Minister’s directive to all departments to operate on a war footing and maintain close coordination under a unified government-wide response mechanism. Officials have been instructed to remain alert on the ground, respond quickly to emerging challenges and prepare for the restoration of essential services after the cyclone passes.

To reinforce disaster management operations, one platoon each of the Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been deployed in Jagatsinghpur district. The teams will assist with rescue operations, evacuation and relief work whenever required.

Meanwhile, the District Control Room and Police Control Room are operating round the clock to monitor developments, coordinate emergency measures and respond to public needs. The district administration and police are maintaining close communication to ensure that assistance reaches affected communities without delay.

Authorities have appealed to residents to remain alert, follow official weather and safety advisories, cooperate with evacuation teams and move to designated shelters whenever directed. People living in vulnerable coastal areas have been urged not to ignore instructions issued by the administration.

With a zero-casualty target guiding the response, the administration and police continue to strengthen field-level preparedness, prioritising timely evacuation, effective coordination and the safety of residents throughout the cyclone emergency.
