Cuttack CRRI Police Station IIC Arrested by Vigilance for Taking ₹40,000 Bribe

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Vigilance on Saturday arrested the Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) of CRRI police station in Cuttack on charges of demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹40,000 from a licensed liquor vendor.
The accused officer, identified as Bijay Kumar Barik, was apprehended at Rajmahal Chhak in Bhubaneswar while allegedly accepting the bribe. Vigilance officials recovered and seized the entire bribe amount from his possession.

Following the arrest, Vigilance teams launched simultaneous searches at two locations linked to Barik to probe possible accumulation of disproportionate assets. During a search at his government quarters in Unit-1 area of Bhubaneswar, officials recovered around ₹5 lakh in cash. Further searches were continuing at the time of filing this report.
Barik is currently being interrogated regarding the bribe demand as well as the source of the cash recovered from his residence.
A case has been registered against him under Cell Division Police Station Case No. 1/2026, under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. Further investigation is underway.
