CM Mohan Majhi Announces Free KG To PG Education

On June 12, 2026, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi made a big announcement: the state will offer free education from Kindergarten all the way up to Postgraduate studies. He shared this news at a press conference marking two years since his government took office. Majhi explained that the new policy aims to completely remove the financial stress of tuition and schooling for students and their families. His main message was that no one should have to give up on higher education just because of money. With this move, Odisha becomes the first state in India to implement such an extensive, bottom-to-top free education policy.

While addressing the media, Majhi looked back at what his administration has accomplished since June 12, 2024, when he first took the oath. He characterized his tenure as a “people-centric administration” that has successfully rolled out 121 welfare and development schemes over the last two years. Majhi credited this progress to working closely with citizens, alongside the Centre-State “double-engine” governance model. In his view, this teamwork is laying the groundwork for a more inclusive and prosperous Odisha.

Majhi also ran through his government’s key results in areas like economic growth, agriculture, healthcare, and social welfare. When it comes to the economy, he said Odisha has attracted investment proposals totaling over Rs 20 lakh crore, which he points to as a massive vote of confidence from global and domestic investors. On farmers issues, he mentioned new support measures, plus a push to create more self-sufficient “Lakhpati Didis” and empower over one crore women through programs like the Subhadra Yojana.

Majhi finished by defending his government’s work on law and order. Responding to critics, he challenged anyone to point to a single criminal case where the police hadn’t caught the culprits. He reiterated that maintaining strict law and order remains a foundational pillar of his government’s vision for a safe and rapidly developing Odisha.
