CM Majhi to Visit Chhattisgarh for Mahanadi Talks

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi is expected to visit Chhattisgarh after the ongoing Assembly session to meet Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and discuss the long-pending Mahanadi water dispute.
The visit is likely to focus on water-sharing arrangements, reservoir releases, coordinated flood management and a possible revision of Hirakud Dam’s rule curve. A final date has not yet been announced.
The proposed meeting follows Sai’s recent visit to Bhubaneswar, where he met Majhi and said both states could work towards an amicable solution with technical support from the Central Water Commission (CWC). Majhi described the talks as fruitful.

The Mahanadi dispute has remained unresolved for years. Odisha approached the Centre and the Supreme Court in 2016, and the Mahanadi Water Disputes Tribunal was constituted in 2018. The Centre has recently stepped up efforts to facilitate discussions between the two states.
A meeting of both chief ministers was also held in New Delhi on July 30 under Union Jal Shakti Minister C. R. Patil. Further technical discussions are underway as Odisha and Chhattisgarh explore a negotiated settlement.
