Central Team Visits Bhubaneswar to Probe SCB Medical ICU Fire Incident

Bhubaneswar: A six-member central team arrived in Bhubaneswar to investigate the fire incident that took place at the Trauma Care ICU of SCB Medical College & Hospital on March 16, 2026.
The team comprises Commandant Aditya Kumar from the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA); Prof. Dr. Arvind Kumar, Director, and Dr. Yogesh, CMO (DM Cell), from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare; Commandant Nagendra Sangram from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF); Fire Advisor Prashant Lonkar from the Ministry of Home Affairs; and Sunil Kumar Sahu, General Manager (T&C) of the Odisha State Disaster Management Authority (OSDMA).

According to official sources, the team held detailed discussions with senior officials of the medical college at the office of the Dean and Principal. The discussions focused on assessing the circumstances that led to the fire and reviewing the existing safety protocols in place at the facility.
The visit is part of a comprehensive inquiry aimed at identifying any lapses and recommending necessary measures to prevent such incidents in critical healthcare facilities in the future.
