Body of 28-Year-Old Woman Recovered from Kathajodi River in Cuttack; Investigation Underway

Cuttack: The body of a 28-year-old woman was recovered from the Kathajodi River near Subhas Setu at Trishulia under Baranga police limits on Thursday morning.

According to reports, locals noticed a bag and a pair of slippers lying near the bridge and alerted the police. Following information, personnel from Baranga police and fire services reached the spot and recovered the body from the river. The deceased was later sent to SCB Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem examination.

The woman has been identified as Chandrika Hembram. Her identity was confirmed based on a doctor’s prescription found inside the bag recovered from the spot.

Police also recovered a mobile phone from the bag. While locals suspected that the woman may have jumped into the river from the bridge, police have not ruled out other possibilities and are investigating the case from all possible angles, including suicide and suspected foul play.

Baranga police have initiated a detailed investigation. Further clarity on the circumstances leading to the death is expected after the post-mortem report and analysis of call detail records and other evidence.
