Ammonia Gas Leak in Tamil Nadu Claims Another Odia Worker; Death Toll Reaches 15

Bhubaneswar: The number of Odia workers who have lost their lives following an ammonia gas leak at a seafood processing factory in Tamil Nadu has increased to 15, after another injured worker died while undergoing treatment.
The latest victim has been identified as 23-year-old Rohini Juang, a resident of Rebana village under the Harichandanpur block in Odisha’s Keonjhar district. She had been battling for her life in hospital since the industrial accident.

Sources said four to five other workers injured in the incident continue to receive medical treatment.
The gas leak occurred while nearly 120 migrant workers from Odisha, Assam and Jharkhand were on duty at the seafood processing unit. The sudden release of ammonia exposed workers to toxic fumes, causing breathing problems, dizziness and intense eye irritation.
As panic spread across the factory, several workers reportedly collapsed inside the premises and were immediately shifted to nearby hospitals for emergency treatment.
Authorities are continuing to monitor the condition of the injured, while further details regarding the incident are awaited.
