Diarrhoea Under Control in Odisha, Special Measures for Rath Yatra

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling on Monday assured that the diarrhoea situation in the state is under control, with a steady decline in the number of new cases. The State Government, he said, is treating the issue with utmost seriousness and has implemented a series of measures to curb the spread.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has held a high-level review meeting involving four departments to coordinate efforts in managing the outbreak. District collectors have been directed to closely monitor the situation, while “Stop Diarrhoea” awareness campaigns have been launched across all districts to educate the public and promote preventive practices.

“The situation is improving thanks to the government’s prompt and sustained response,” said Mahaling, urging citizens to remain cautious and adopt hygienic practices to prevent further spread.

With the annual Rath Yatra festival in Puri approaching, the government has announced a comprehensive health plan to manage potential health risks. A total of 387 doctors and paramedical staff will be deployed in and around Puri, supported by 69 first-aid centres to provide immediate medical attention. Additionally, 79 ambulances will be stationed at key points to handle emergencies swiftly.

The Minister also informed that steps are being taken to ensure the availability of safe drinking water during the festival, which draws lakhs of devotees from across the country.

The special measures are part of the government’s proactive approach to ensure a safe and healthy Rath Yatra while keeping the diarrhoea situation under control.
