150 Bullets Found in Purushottam Express Sleeper Coach in Puri
Bhubaneswar: In a surprising turn of events, approximately 150 live bullets were uncovered in a sleeper coach of the Purushottam Express at Puri railway station in Odisha on the eve of Diwali. The bullets were discovered in the S2 sleeper coach of the train, which runs between Puri and New Delhi, during a routine security check conducted by the Railway Protection Force (RPF).
Security personnel found the ammunition neatly packed in 15 packets and stored in a bag under a seat. Upon inspection, the bullets were identified as 8 mm soft-nose rounds manufactured at the Ammunition Factory Khadki near Pune.
Following the discovery, the bullets were immediately seized, and the Government Railway Police (GRP) were alerted. The RPF and GRP have launched a joint investigation to trace the origin and purpose of the ammunition.
“The officials of the RPF post in Puri found 150 rounds of ammunition in the S2 coach of the Purushottam Express during a routine inspection,” the Railways stated. “The bullets have been handed over to the GRP for the necessary legal action.”
With heightened security concerns around the Diwali season, the incident has raised alarm, prompting authorities to increase vigilance at railway stations across the region. Further details regarding the investigation are awaited.
