JD(U)-BJP alliance set for ‘break’

Patna, Aug 8(Reporters Today Bureau): The alliance between Janata Dal (United) and BJP in Bihar appears set for a break.
The political honeymoon of the two parties seems all over after the Bihar Chief Minister’s decision to skip Sunday’s Niti Aayog meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the latest in a series of snubs.
It has fuelled speculation that two NDA allies may be headed for a split.
Notably, Nitish Kumar has been giving the cold shoulder to the BJP for a few months now. The NITI Aayog meet was the fourth meeting since July 17 called by the Union government that the JD(U) chief has stayed away from.
According to political anaylysts the NDA regime in Bihar is likely to collapse before August 11 after which the JD(U) may join hands with former ally RJD to form the government.
According to sources, the JD(U)-BJP alliance in Bihar is on the verge of falling apart. As most JD(U) MLAs are averse to mid-term elections, the party is eyeing tie-ups with the RJD, Congress and the Left Front to retain its hold on power in the state, sources added.
The relation between the two parties soured over RCP Singh’s proximity with the BJP. The former Union Minister was not given a ticket by the JD (U) for the Rajya Sabha election and later he quit the JD (U).
The JD (U) also sought an explanation from Singh over his alleged disproportionate assets.
