Anu Garg; A Superb Flood Manager

Bhubaneswar (Reporters Today Bureau): In Odisha, many areas have suffered the impact of flood. While flood waters have started receding in many of the affected areas, yet certain pockets of at least four districts continue to be under the influence of flood. This was revealed in a high level review meeting held in Bhubaneswar by the Special Relief Commissioner and Principal Secretary, Water Resources department, Anu Garg yesterday.

As per official information, flood situation in many affected areas have already started improving owing to a reduction of inflow into the Hirakud dam from about 9.5 lakh cusec day before to 8 lakh cusec yesterday. Water levels in rivers like Brahmani, Budhabalanga and Baitarani are likely to come down further today.

Yet, the impact about 10 lakh cusec of water now flowing through Mundali in the Mahanadi river system continues to be a cause for worry for some parts of coastal districts like Puri, Cuttack, Jagatsingpur and Kendrapada. The senior officials of the concerned district and water resources department are on round the clock vigil to deal with any emergency.
