Odisha Might Reduce School Syllabus By 30% or More: Samir Das

Bhubaneswar (Reporters Today Bureau): After the CBSE announced a reduction in syllabus for Class 10 to 12 by up to 30% for 2020-21 academic session, School and Mass Education Minister Samir Ranjan Das today said syllabus might also be trimmed in the State education boards.

Samir said the State Government will take the CBSE’s move into serious consideration and decide accordingly in the interest of students. The syllabus might be curtailed by 30 per cent or more than that. Samir, however, clarified that the government will take a decision on the reopening of schools only after assessing the COVID-19 situation in the state in August.

“As COVID-19 cases have reached alarming proportions in Odisha in July, the state government will decide on the trimming of the syllabus only on the basis of the date of reopening of the schools,” the minister said. “If necessary, the government might reduce the syllabus by more than 30 per cent. As the schools have remained closed, it will not be possible at the moment to say as to how much syllabus will be reduced,” Samir added.
