‘No Helmet, No Petrol’ in Puri from Today

Puri (Pramit Pramathes): The Puri district administration is going to tighten the rules on wearing helmets from today. For the first time in Puri district, the ‘No Helmet4, No Petrol’ rule has been implemented. Accordingly, the supply department has written to all the petrol pump owners in the district. Only those wearing helmets have been ordered to pay for petrol. The driver, on the other hand, has also been asked to be monitored through CCTV. According to CCTV footage, the decision was made to track the vehicle number and the e-challan will sent to him.

According to a letter from the district supply office (190/24.02.20), the owners of the petrol pumps will monitor whether the driver is wearing a helmet while filling up with petrol in a two-wheeled vehicle. If no driver is wearing a helmet, they will not be given petrol under any circumstances. Petrol pump owners have been instructed to abide by it. All petrol pump owners will clarify whether or not their petrol pump has CCTV installed. If not then CCTV will be installed immediately to monitor the biker. The footage will be submitted daily to the Regional Transportation Authority.

In this regard, the district supply officer, Mr. Deo, said that the ‘No Helmet, No Petrol’ rule has been strictly enforced since Sunday on the instructions of the district magistrate. Its main goal is to raise awareness about safe driving. Despite the fact that helmets were made compulsory, drivers were reluctant to comply. This is how people can wear helmets to protect themselves. At each petrol pump, large hoardings will be installed. Those who are wearing helmets and those who are not, will be monitored on CCTV. People will be alerted at an early stage. The e-challan will then be sent by tracking the number from CCTV footage. Mr Deo said the e-challan would be delivered to home addresses and mobile numbers.
