Central Range IG Reviews Durga Puja Security Arrangements

Durga Puja celebrations underway across Odisha’s Central Range, IG Dr. Satyajit Naik reviewed security arrangements and operational preparedness during a video conference with all Superintendents of Police (SPs) on October 18, 2026.
The meeting, held from 6 PM to 7 PM, focused on maintaining law and order, managing festive crowds and ensuring the safety of devotees at Puja pandals and major religious sites.
Durga Puja is being observed at 1,243 Puja mandaps across the districts under the Central Range. Special security arrangements have also been made at prominent Shakti Peethas, including Maa Sarala, Maa Charchika, Maa Bhattarika and Maa Sirlo. A total of 36 platoons of security personnel, along with Home Guards, have been deployed under the supervision of senior police officers.
During the review, Dr. Naik stressed the need for effective crowd control through proper assessment of entry and exit routes at Puja pandals and Ravan Dahan venues. Police officials were also instructed to ensure smooth traffic movement and prevent congestion in crowded areas.
The meeting further reviewed lighting facilities at pandals and approach roads, fire prevention arrangements, and the installation and monitoring of CCTV cameras at key locations. Special attention was given to security at Meena Bazaars and the safe operation of Ram Doli rides.
All SPs have been directed to maintain heightened vigilance, personally monitor security arrangements and coordinate closely with relevant government departments and other stakeholders. They have also been instructed to submit situation reports (SITREPs) every two hours until the completion of idol immersion.
The review underscores the Central Range police administration’s focus on ensuring that the remaining Durga Puja festivities and immersion process conclude peacefully, safely and without disruption.
