TCS to Focus on AI Skills, 80% of New Hires to Have Digital Expertise

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is strengthening its focus on artificial intelligence and emerging technologies, with around 80% of its new employees expected to possess digital and AI-related skills.
TCS Chief Operating Officer Arathi Subramanian said the company hired 4,500 employees during the July–September quarter. Of these, approximately 25–30% had specialised AI expertise, while nearly 80% possessed broader next-generation technology skills. She confirmed that this hiring strategy would continue, citing the availability of skilled talent.

TCS CEO and Managing Director K. Krithivasan said career growth depends on the ability to learn and adapt, rather than age or experience alone. He noted that experienced engineers can benefit from AI training because their technical and domain knowledge gives them an advantage.

Meanwhile, AI-related services accounted for 10% of TCS’s overall revenue in the September quarter. The company expects larger AI contracts to improve profit margins as business expands. According to Krithivasan, AI is increasingly becoming part of the company’s work, although TCS has not disclosed the exact AI share of its $9.6 billion total contract value for the quarter.
