Bangladesh Seeks IAEA Help to Fast-Track Rooppur Power Grid Connection

Bangladesh has sought assistance from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to accelerate the process of supplying electricity from the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant to the country’s national grid.
Bangladesh Science and Technology Minister Faqir Mahbub Anam raised the issue during a bilateral meeting with IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi in Vienna, Austria.
The discussions covered the expansion of peaceful applications of nuclear technology, strengthening nuclear safety and security, and enhancing international cooperation. Anam also reaffirmed Bangladesh’s commitment to maintaining international standards in nuclear safety, security and the responsible management of nuclear energy.
The Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant is being developed as Bangladesh’s first nuclear power facility and is expected to add significant electricity-generation capacity to the national grid.
