VSSUT Burla Secures Design Patent for Smart Agricultural Robot

Burla (Sambalpur): Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT), Burla, has achieved a significant milestone in innovation by obtaining a design patent for a smart agricultural robot developed by its researchers and students.
The patent, registered under Design No. D-500508-001 on May 1, 2026, recognises the university’s innovative contribution towards advancing technology in the agriculture sector. The robot has been designed to support modern farming practices by promoting smart and efficient agricultural operations.

The project was spearheaded by Dr. Mihir Kumar Sutar, Assistant Professor, and Dr. Sarojrani Pattnaik, Associate Professor from the Department of Mechanical Engineering. The research team also included students Ch. Kamraju, Sunil Kumar Barik, Rajendra Majhi, Abhisek Behera, Sahil Kumar, and Nandita Mohanty, who played a key role in the development of the innovation.
Sharing the achievement on its official X handle, VSSUT congratulated the faculty members and students involved in the project and wished them continued success in their future research pursuits.
University officials described the patent as a reflection of VSSUT’s increasing focus on research, innovation and the development of practical technologies capable of addressing real-world challenges, particularly in the field of agriculture.
