Crime Branch Takes Over Probe Into Alleged PG Exam Paper Leak at MKCG Medical College

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Crime Branch has assumed charge of the investigation into the alleged leak of the final-year postgraduate (PG) examination question paper at MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Brahmapur, escalating the probe into the high-profile academic controversy.

Crime Branch Director General Vinaytosh Mishra on Monday said a Special Investigation Team (SIT) would soon be formed to carry out a detailed investigation into the matter. The team will examine the circumstances surrounding the alleged leak, trace the source of the question paper, and identify those involved in sharing it on social media.

Mishra said the investigation is currently in its initial phase, with officers collecting relevant evidence and recording preliminary information. He assured that stringent legal action would be taken against anyone found responsible for the leak.

The controversy erupted after the final-year PG examination question paper allegedly surfaced on social media on July 27, reportedly while the examination was still underway. The postgraduate examinations had begun on July 21.

The incident raised serious concerns among students and the medical fraternity, prompting questions over the security and credibility of the examination process. In response, the MKCG Medical College administration had launched an internal inquiry and constituted a fact-finding committee.

Considering the gravity of the case and its wider implications, the Odisha government later entrusted the investigation to the Crime Branch.

Investigators are expected to determine whether the alleged leak originated from within the institution or involved outside individuals or networks. The probe will also focus on tracking those responsible for circulating the question paper online. The outcome of the investigation is expected to establish accountability and pave the way for further legal proceedings.
