Heavy Rain Likely in Several Odisha Districts Till August 9, IMD Issues Yellow Warning

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall in several parts of Odisha over the coming days, with wet weather likely to persist until August 9.

According to the latest weather bulletin issued on Sunday, districts including Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Keonjhar, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Mayurbhanj, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Balasore, Dhenkanal, Deogarh, Angul, Jajpur and Cuttack are expected to receive heavy rainfall during the period. In view of the forecast, the IMD has issued a Yellow Warning for the affected districts.

The weather agency has also predicted thunderstorms accompanied by gusty surface winds in parts of coastal, western, northern and southern Odisha through August 7.

Besides isolated heavy showers, light to moderate rainfall or thundershowers are likely to occur at many places across the state until August 9, keeping the monsoon activity active over Odisha.

The IMD said several districts, including Jajpur, Keonjhar, Deogarh, Malkangiri, Kandhamal, Balangir, Balasore, Sambalpur, Nuapada, Angul, Bhadrak and Boudh, recorded light to moderate rainfall during the past 24 hours.

Meanwhile, heavy rainfall was reported from a few locations in Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj and Ganjam during the same period.

The Meteorological Department has advised people in the affected districts to remain alert and stay updated with official weather advisories as rainfall activity is expected to continue over the next several days.
