BMC Opens 30 Free Public Urinals Across Bhubaneswar to Boost Sanitation

Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Wednesday launched 30 newly built public urinal facilities across the city as part of its drive to strengthen urban sanitation and discourage open urination.

The initiative marks the first phase of a larger civic project under which the BMC plans to establish more than 200 public urinal units across its three administrative zones to improve access to basic sanitation facilities.

The newly commissioned urinals have been set up at several busy locations with heavy public footfall, including Unit-I Market, Rasulgarh Bus Stand, Bapuji Nagar, AG Square Park, Baramunda, Nayapalli, ID Market, Priyadarshini Market, Khandagiri, Sriya Talkies and N-3 Park, among other areas.

According to the civic body, the facilities have been strategically located in commercial centres, transport hubs and other public places to make sanitation services easily accessible for residents and visitors. The move is expected to help maintain cleaner public spaces by reducing incidents of open urination.

BMC officials said the urinals will be free for public use, with no user charges. The facilities will remain operational every day from 6 am to 10 pm.

The corporation said the project is part of its broader efforts to improve civic infrastructure and enhance cleanliness standards across Bhubaneswar. More public urinal facilities will be added in the coming months as the city expands its sanitation network under the ongoing initiative.
