Badasahi Block JE nabbed by Odisha Vigilance while taking bribe

Mayurbhanj: Sushil Kumar Singh, the Junior Engineer (JE) of Badasahi Block in Mayurbhanj district has been apprehended by Odisha Vigilance while demanding and taking a bribe.

Singh was nabbed while taking bribe of Rs 32,000 from a Mate engaged under MGNREGA for a GP under Badasahi Block for clearing the final bill of the above work.

The mate was looking after the execution of one morum/metal road work at a cost of Rs 5 lakhs in the GP. After completion of the work, he had been requesting the accused JE Singh for a couple of months to clear the final bill. But, the accused Singh demanded bribe Rs 32,000 (approximately 7% of cost of the work).

When the Mate expressed his inability to pay the demanded bribe, the accused Junior Engineer insisted on taking a bribe. Finding no other way, Mate (complainant) reported the matter to vigilance authorities.

Following this, today, a team of Odisha Vigilance nabbed Singh while taking bribe Rs 32,000 from the complainant. The entire tainted bribe money Rs 32,000 has been recovered from the possession of the JE and seized.

Following the trap, simultaneous searches are going on at three locations linked to Singh, Junior Engineer from Disproportionate Assets (DA) angle.

In this connection, Baleshwar Vigilance PS Case No 10/2026, U/s 7PC (Amendment) Act, 2018 has been registered. Investigation is in progress against the accused JE.
