Elderly man killed in elephant attack in Sundargarh

Sundargarh: An aged man was allegedly dragged out of his house and trampled to death by a wild elephant in Dimbatola village under Jamudihi panchayat in Keblang police limits of Bonai in Odisha’s Sundargarh district on Tuesday morning.
The victim has been identified as Jol Oram. Oram died on the spot in the elephant attack.
The family members and the villagers rushed to the site and organized a road blockade in the area to press for compensation to the deceased’s family and a permanent solution to the repeated elephant attacks in the locality.
They also demanded a job to one of the family members and compensation to the injured persons.
On being informed, forest officials and police reached the spot and started an inquiry. The body was sent for post-mortem. Locals complained that regular entry of wild elephants into the village has made normal life impossible.
The locals have been demanding measures for a permanent solution.
