12 Indians Killed in Ras Laffan Industrial Accident in Qatar

Doha: Twelve Indian nationals were among the 13 people who died in a major industrial accident at Ras Laffan Industrial City in Qatar, authorities confirmed on Monday.

The Embassy of India in Qatar expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and extended condolences to the families of the deceased. The mission said it is working closely with Qatari authorities to provide all possible assistance to affected Indian nationals and facilitate the early repatriation of the mortal remains.

Qatari officials also confirmed that all those injured in the incident are in stable condition and are receiving appropriate medical treatment.

According to the Ministry of Interior, the accident occurred following a technical malfunction during operations at a factory in Ras Laffan Industrial City on Sunday night. The incident claimed 13 lives and left 66 others injured.

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident and assess the technical circumstances that led to the tragedy. Necessary action will be taken in accordance with legal and safety regulations once the inquiry is completed.

Officials stated that no gas leaks or environmental hazards were detected following the incident, assuring that there was no threat to public safety or the surrounding area.

In a separate statement, QatarEnergy said an operational incident occurred during the start-up of activities at the Barzan local gas supply facility, triggering an explosion and fire on the evening of June 21. Emergency response teams were immediately deployed to the site, and the fire has since been brought under control.

The company said it will continue to share updates as more information becomes available.
