Heat Index Touches 43°C in Bhubaneswar as Humidity Soars; IMD Issues Advisory

Bhubaneswar: Residents of Bhubaneswar Bhubaneswar woke up to intensely uncomfortable weather conditions on Saturday morning, with temperatures already reaching 30.8°C at around 5:30 AM and humidity levels rising sharply to 87 per cent.
According to local weather data, the high moisture content in the air pushed the heat index—commonly referred to as the “feels-like” temperature—to a hazardous 43°C, making outdoor conditions oppressive even during the early morning hours. The combination of heat and humidity significantly increased discomfort levels, with minimal relief expected as the day progresses.

The India Meteorological Department India Meteorological Department has advised residents to remain cautious and take preventive measures against heat-related stress. Citizens have been urged to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to outdoor conditions, and limit physical activity, particularly during peak heat hours.
Health experts have also cautioned people to watch for early signs of heat-related illnesses such as dizziness, nausea, headaches, and unusual fatigue. They recommend regular water intake, staying in shaded or air-conditioned spaces whenever possible, and avoiding unnecessary outdoor movement.
Authorities continue to monitor the weather situation as high humidity levels are expected to sustain the “feels-like” temperature well above actual readings through the day.
