Odisha Police Rolls Out Massive Security for BRICS Meet

Puri: Odisha Police has rolled out an extensive security framework in Puri for the BRICS Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Working Group Meeting, a high-profile international event bringing together delegates and representatives from BRICS member and partner countries.

The security arrangements are being supervised by Inspector General of Police (Central Range) Dr. Satyajit Naik, who has been closely monitoring preparedness and coordinating with various security and administrative agencies to ensure the smooth conduct of the event.

Ahead of the meeting, Odisha Director General of Police Yogesh Bahadur Khurania visited Puri and reviewed the security arrangements at key locations, including the conference venue, delegates’ accommodation facilities, and designated transit routes. During the review, he directed officials to maintain the highest standards of security, coordination, and emergency preparedness.

To safeguard the event, Odisha Police has deployed 10 platoons of armed police personnel, supported by four Additional Superintendents of Police, six Deputy Superintendents of Police, eight Inspectors-in-Charge, and 45 Sub-Inspectors. Personnel from intelligence, traffic, marine, and special operations units have also been mobilised as part of the comprehensive security plan.

A multi-tier security system has been established across the temple town, featuring strict access control, anti-sabotage checks, surveillance operations, and regular area domination exercises. CCTV networks, technical monitoring systems, and intelligence-based surveillance are being utilised to ensure real-time situational awareness and prompt response to any security concern.

Special arrangements have been made for the movement of delegates and dignitaries. Designated routes are being continuously monitored and sanitised, while escort vehicles, Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs), and emergency response units have been strategically deployed to ensure safe and uninterrupted transit.

Traffic management measures have also been implemented to facilitate smooth movement of vehicles while minimising inconvenience to residents, pilgrims, and tourists visiting the holy city.

Given Puri’s coastal location, security agencies have intensified coastal surveillance and maritime patrolling. The Coastal Security Wing and Marine Police are maintaining heightened vigilance along vulnerable coastal stretches, with enhanced monitoring to prevent any potential threat from sea routes.

Odisha Police has further strengthened coordination with central intelligence agencies, district administration, fire services, health authorities, disaster response teams, and other stakeholder departments. Comprehensive contingency plans, including medical support, fire safety measures, and emergency communication systems, have been put in place to address any unforeseen situation.

Officials said the elaborate arrangements reflect Odisha’s commitment to hosting international events with the highest standards of security and operational efficiency, ensuring a safe and secure environment for all delegates participating in the BRICS meeting.
