CM Majhi Urges Public to Take Precautions Amid Ongoing Heatwave in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Monday appealed to citizens to remain vigilant and take adequate precautions as an intense heatwave continues to affect several parts of the state, posing serious health risks due to soaring temperatures and high humidity levels.

In a message posted on social media platform X, the Chief Minister expressed concern over the prevailing weather conditions and urged people to prioritise their health and safety during the extreme heat.

He advised residents to stay well-hydrated by drinking water regularly, even in the absence of thirst, and recommended the consumption of traditional cooling beverages such as torani, bela pana, mandia pej, coconut water and lemon juice to prevent dehydration.

Majhi also cautioned people against venturing outdoors during peak afternoon hours unless absolutely necessary. Those required to travel outside were advised to carry sufficient drinking water and use protective measures such as umbrellas, hats and wet cloths to minimise heat exposure.

Special emphasis was placed on the safety of vulnerable groups, including children, pregnant women and senior citizens. The Chief Minister urged them to remain indoors as much as possible during periods of extreme heat.

He further called on families and caregivers to watch for symptoms of heat-related illnesses, including excessive sweating, dry skin, dizziness and reduced urination, and seek immediate medical attention when necessary.

Highlighting the importance of community support, Majhi appealed to citizens to assist daily wage earners and other outdoor workers who are particularly vulnerable to the harsh weather. He encouraged people to provide drinking water to pedestrians and contribute to local efforts aimed at reducing heat stress.

The Chief Minister also urged residents to show compassion towards animals and birds by placing water-filled earthen pots in shaded areas outside their homes.

Stressing the need for collective action, Majhi said public awareness and community participation are essential to preventing heat-related casualties during the ongoing heatwave.

“I firmly believe that our collective efforts and awareness will keep everyone safe in these difficult times. Be careful, stay healthy,” the Chief Minister said.
