Veteran Playback Singer Suman Kalyanpur Passes Away at 89

Bhubaneswar: Renowned playback singer and Padma Bhushan awardee Suman Kalyanpur, celebrated for her melodious voice across Hindi, Marathi, and Odia cinema, passed away at the age of 89, leaving behind a rich musical legacy spanning several decades.

Suman Kalyanpur began her cinematic journey with Marathi films such as Shukrachi Chandni and Mangu in 1954. Over the course of her illustrious career, she sang for more than 850 films in multiple languages and earned widespread acclaim for her soulful renditions and versatility.

Some of her most popular Hindi songs include “Sharaabi Sharaabi Yeh Saawan Ka Mausam,” “Aajkal Tere Mere Pyaar Ke Charche,” “Na Na Karte Pyaar,” “Na Tum Hamein Jaano,” and “Parbaton Ke Pedon Par.” Her memorable duets with Mohammed Rafi continue to be cherished by music lovers across generations.

The veteran singer also made a significant contribution to Odia cinema, lending her voice to several memorable films, including Gapa Hele Bi Sata, Chilika Tire, and Samaya. Her songs won the hearts of Odia audiences and remain an integral part of the state’s musical heritage.
