Man Allegedly Tied Up, Assaulted at In-Laws’ House in Kendrapara

Kendrapara: A family dispute turned violent in Odisha’s Kendrapara district after a man was allegedly tied up and assaulted at his in-laws’ house following an altercation with family members.

The injured man, identified as Sudarshan Sethi of Alaile village under Mahakalapada police limits, was first admitted to Pattamundai Hospital and later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack after his condition reportedly deteriorated.

According to reports, Sudarshan had married Purnima Sethi of Bandhasahi village under Pattamundai police limits around three years ago. However, marital differences allegedly surfaced after a year of marriage, leading to frequent disputes between the couple.

Four days ago, following another quarrel, Purnima reportedly returned to her parental home. On Monday, Sudarshan went to meet his wife at her house along with two other youths.

Family members alleged that Sudarshan was heavily intoxicated and created a disturbance at the house. Following the confrontation, his in-laws and some local residents allegedly tied his hands and legs with ropes and assaulted him.

Later, it was reportedly discovered that Sudarshan had consumed poisonous seeds along with alcohol. His wife subsequently took him to Pattamundai Hospital for treatment. As his health condition worsened, he was later shifted to SCB Hospital in Cuttack.

Meanwhile, Sudarshan’s sister, Kandhei Sethi, lodged a complaint at Pattamundai police station alleging that her brother had been brutally assaulted.

Pattamundai police station IIC Bandana Patra said a case has been registered based on the complaint and an investigation into the incident is underway.
