Young Couple Found Hanging from Banyan Tree in Jajpur

Bhubaneswar: In a tragic incident, a young couple was found hanging from a banyan tree near the Naun-Mania sluice gate at Mohantypatna village under Mangalpur police station limits in Odisha’s Jajpur district.
The deceased were identified as Samir Das (25), son of Manguli Das of Ishwarpur village, and Surekha Malik (22) of Mohantypatna village.
According to reports, Samir was employed at a plywood company in Kerala and had returned to his native village a few days ago. The couple was found hanging from a branch of the banyan tree with a dupatta tied around their necks.
Locals said the woman was found with sindoor on her forehead, a mangalsutra around her neck, alta on her feet and bangles on her hands. Traces of alta and sindoor were also reportedly found on the man’s hands, indicating that the two may have performed some form of marriage ritual before the incident.
Family members stated that Samir had left home on Monday evening and did not return.
The exact reason behind the suspected suicide is yet to be ascertained. Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
