Five Policemen Killed in Head-On Collision Near Jharsuguda Sadar Police Station

Jharsuguda: In a tragic road accident in the early hours of Sunday, five police personnel lost their lives after a speeding truck rammed into a Bolero PCR van near the Jharsuguda Sadar Police Station on National Highway 49.
According to reports, the mishap occurred when the truck, allegedly being driven at high speed from the opposite direction, collided head-on with the police vehicle. The impact was so severe that the Bolero PCR van was completely mangled, while the truck overturned and lay on its side following the crash.

The deceased have been identified as Home Guard Bhakta Mirdha, Constables Kashiram Bhoi and Devdatt Saha, Havildar Lingaraj Dhurua, and DSI Niranjan Kujur. The personnel were reportedly returning to duty after attending a marriage function when the tragedy struck.
Local residents and fellow police personnel rushed to the spot immediately after hearing the loud crash. Rescue teams recovered the bodies from the wreckage, confirming five fatalities at the scene. Two other personnel sustained critical injuries and were rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital, where they remain under treatment. The truck driver, who was also injured in the collision, is undergoing medical care.
Additional Superintendent of Police Madhusikta Mishra confirmed that a case has been registered and an investigation is underway. Preliminary findings indicate over-speeding and possible negligence on the part of the truck driver as the likely cause of the accident.
