Government bus runs over woman in Puri

Puri: In a tragic incident, a woman sustained serious injured after a bus run government bus ran over a woman on Nabakalevar road in Puri on Friday.

The injured woman, identified as Laxmi Maharana, a resident of Angul has been living as a tenant in Puri.

As per reports, the bus operated by government hit Laxmi at Matiapada, causing serious injuries. She was immediately rescued  and shifted to Puri Medical College and Hospital. As her injuries were severe the doctors referred her to AIIMS for advanced treatment.

The incident sparked anger among local residents, and they staged a road blockade demanding immediate intervention from the authorities. They demanded that the government bear the injured woman’s medical expenses and provide adequate compensation.

They also urged the officials to convert the stretch into one way road and also asked to complete ban movement of the bus on that road.

On being informed, Kumbharpada police along with traffic police, city DSP, Tahasildar,Town police station IIC  reached the spot and tried to control the situation and launched an investigation into the incident.
