‘Operation Sugar Trap’ Nets Major Drug Haul

Khordha: In a major breakthrough, Khordha Model Police Station has busted a brown sugar trafficking racket under the special operation titled ‘Operation Sugar Trap’. The action led to the seizure of 650 grams of brown sugar and a significant amount of contraband materials. The case has been registered as Khordha Model P.S. Case No. 512 dated 02.12.2025 under Sections 21(c)/29 of the NDPS Act.

According to the FIR, police received credible information at around 7:40 PM on December 1 regarding illegal drug activities in New Sundara Sahi, Khordha. Acting swiftly on the directions of Khordha SP Sri Vivekanand Sharma, IPS, and under the supervision of SDPO Sri Nihar Ranjan Pradhan (OPS) and IIC Sanjay Kumar Nayak, a special raiding team was formed to verify the input.

A team led by SI Dinesh Kumar Pingua, along with ASI Phulamani Hembram, Hav. N. Ch. Mallick, Constables P.K. Sahoo (315), Sunita Baral (323), and OAPF/40 Siba Hantal, proceeded to the suspected location—the house of Ramesh Jena at New Sundara Sahi. The raid was conducted at around 8:40 PM, during which the team successfully apprehended three individuals involved in the illegal trade.

The detained persons include a 20-year-old male from New Sundara Sahi, a 23-year-old male from Upparsahi, and a 42-year-old woman from New Sundara Sahi, Khordha. All three were found in possession of the seized narcotics and related materials.

During the raid, police seized 650 grams of brown sugar along with polythene packets, a polythene sealing machine, and a digital weighing machine. Additionally, 175 bottles of ESkuf cough syrup containing Codeine Phosphate and Triprolidine Hydrochloride were recovered from a green bag. Several mobile phones—Vivo V60, Vivo Y16, and Realme 10 Pro Plus—along with SIM cards and a Yamaha Scooty bearing registration number OD-02-DJ-6308 were also seized.

Inspector Sanjay Kumar Nayak, IIC of Model PS Khordha, has been assigned as the Investigating Officer. Police are now conducting further inquiry to trace the wider supply network and identify other members involved in the drug trafficking chain.
