22-Year-Old Man Allegedly Kills Girlfriend in Berhampur Guest House

Bhubaneswar: A 22-year-old man allegedly stabbed his 20-year-old girlfriend to death at a guest house in Berhampur on Tuesday, following a fallout in their relationship.

The incident took place at Pushpanjali Guest House near the Bus Stand in the Vaidyanathpur area of the city. The accused, identified as Abhaya Kumar Sahu of Lanjipalli, Umanagar, reportedly attacked the woman in a fit of rage after tensions arose between them. Sources said the two had been childhood friends, but their relationship deteriorated after Abhaya lost his job and the woman began receiving marriage proposals from others.

According to reports, Abhaya and the woman checked into room number 112 around 11 a.m. on Tuesday. Later, Abhaya left the guest house alone and did not return. Growing suspicious, the guest house staff checked the room and found the woman critically injured. Police were immediately informed.

The victim was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to her injuries on the way. The Gosaninuagaon police reached the scene along with senior officials, including the Berhampur Superintendent of Police and South Zone Inspector General, to begin the investigation.

Police have seized the Aadhaar card of the accused and detained him for questioning. The guest house room has been sealed, and an autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the area, raising concerns over safety in private accommodations. Investigations are ongoing.
