22 Arrested in Gambling Den Raid in Nuapada; Cash, Mobiles and Bikes Seized

Nuapada: In a major crackdown on illegal gambling activities, Jonk Police on Monday raided a gambling den operating in a forest near Jhalbahal village and arrested 22 persons.

Acting on specific intelligence inputs, police conducted the raid and seized cash worth Rs 3.56 lakh, 20 mobile phones, and six motorcycles from the spot.

According to reports, gamblers from Nuapada district, neighbouring districts, and the adjoining state of Chhattisgarh had gathered in the forest area to place bets. Many of those arrested are residents of Khariar Road and different parts of Chhattisgarh.

Police said Khariar Road has long been known as a gambling hub, with several similar cases reported in the past.

Addressing a press conference, Nuapada Superintendent of Police Amritpal Singh confirmed the arrests and said a case has been registered in connection with the incident.

Further investigation is underway to identify and trace other persons involved in the gambling racket, police added.
