VSSUT Student Arrested for Allegedly Assaulting Female Classmate in Burla

Bhubaneswar: A final-year student of Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT), Burla, has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a female classmate late on Thursday night. The arrest was made after the victim filed a complaint at the Burla police station.

According to the complaint, the accused student physically assaulted the woman at his rented accommodation. She also alleged that he had been torturing her for some time and had attempted to extort money from her.

Following the complaint, police registered a case and took the accused into custody. His bail plea was subsequently rejected, and he was remanded to judicial custody before being shifted to Sambalpur Circle Jail.

The university had earlier suspended the student in connection with the incident. Officials said the matter has now been referred to the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) for a detailed inquiry.
