US-Iran Tensions Rise After Reported Strike on Qeshm Island; Indian Sailor Killed

The United States has reportedly launched limited strikes on Iran’s Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz, targeting alleged missile threats to American assets. Iranian media reported five explosions and aircraft activity over the island. However, US officials said the operation was defensive and did not indicate a return to large-scale military action.
Amid rising tensions, diplomatic efforts between Washington and Tehran are continuing through mediators. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi confirmed ongoing consultations, while US Vice President JD Vance indicated progress in negotiations. President Donald Trump also expressed optimism about a possible agreement to prevent renewed conflict and restore normal movement through the Strait of Hormuz.

Meanwhile, an Indian vessel, MSV Al Jusufi, carrying 14 Indian crew members, was hit by an unidentified aerial object off Oman’s coast. One Indian sailor died, while the remaining 13 were rescued by the Omani Coast Guard. Union Shipping Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said Indian authorities are coordinating with Oman to assist survivors and arrange the repatriation of the crew and the deceased sailor’s remains.
The two incidents have heightened concerns over a wider regional escalation despite ongoing diplomatic attempts to ease tensions.
