SP suspended Traffic ASI for Extortion

(Reporters Today, Berhampur): An Assistant Sub-Inspector of traffic was suspended for extortion during the verification of documents of vehicles on Saturday.
ASI Sugu Subbarao found guilty during investigation and was suspended from service by Superintendent of Police Pinak Mishra here. The residents of Berhampur has welcomed the decision of the SP as reports of the public and the police having serious face offs at various places after the new traffic rules implemented in the State.
Badrinath Panda a resident of Saru village in Hinjilicut had visited to Berhampur for a medical check up, where he was intercepted by the police. ASI Sugu charged him with a penalty of Rs.200. Panda paid the same amount and demanded for a receipt.
However, instead of giving him a receipt the ASI threatened him and asked him to leave the place immediately. On this matter, Panda lodged a complaint against ASI at the traffic Police Station. On the basis of the complaint a probe was conducted and the SP suspended the ASI.
