Several vessels waiting for berthing at Paradip port

Paradip, May 21: Paradip Port is having a number of ships waiting at anchorage for exporting and importing cargoes. Presently around 28 ships are waiting to get berth as the Port is congested.
This situation has arisen due to closure of port for four days as a part of the precautionary measures during the land fall of severe cyclone FANI near Puri during which the ships were moved out from berth to open seas to avoid any harm to Port.
Also due to non clearance of cargo from Port caused by less number of railway rakes etc, the cargo operations in Port are getting affected.
As all the berths of port are under 100% occupancy, the port has introduced the barge operation at Paradip with effect from 19.05.2019. Three barges – JAL NIDHI, JAL SAMRIDDHI and MOHUNBAGAN 7 – mobilised from Kolkata were brought to Paradip and pressed into the service.
For first time, the iron ore loading ship mv CAROLYN has berthed at FB-2 on Sunday. The barges are being loaded in NQ-1 and NQ-2 berths and then are being brought to alongside of the ship for loading of cargo from barges to ship.
