Railways Tightens Cleanliness Checks on 11 Long-Distance Trains

Indian Railways has launched a focused drive to improve cleanliness, maintenance and passenger facilities on long-distance trains that remain in service for extended periods.
Under the new monitoring plan, 11 trains with journeys lasting more than 40 hours have been selected for closer supervision. The Railway Board has directed all zonal railways to ensure that these trains remain clean and passenger amenities functional throughout their routes.
The instructions call for timely action on issues related to coach housekeeping, toilet cleanliness, garbage disposal and minor passenger facilities while the trains are on the move. The emphasis is on continuous upkeep from the train’s departure point until it reaches its final destination.

Maintenance supervisors and Coaching Depot Officers have been assigned responsibility for monitoring the selected trains. Zonal railway officials will also conduct weekly reviews of cleanliness standards, passenger complaints and the action taken to resolve them.
The initiative aims to ensure that passengers on long-duration journeys receive a consistently clean and comfortable travel experience, rather than relying only on cleaning and maintenance carried out before departure.
